The Drawings of Leonardo Da Vinci Drawing for Leda and the Swan, c.1508 Fine Art Reproduction This curvaceous figure drawing for Leda and the Swan – probably a copy from within Leonardo’s workshop (bottega) during his years in Milan was from a well known theme in Greek mythology. Zeus in the form of a swan, comes down to Leda. Leonardo produced a number of drawings in different poses from 1504 to 1508 before executing his actual painting. Initially Leonardo favored a kneeling Leda but his final version was for a nude, standing Leda cuddling the neck of the swan emerged as the final study for his painting. Unfortunately, Leonardo’s original painting has been lost but a faithful copy of the painting by Cesare da Sesto, c.1510-1515 remains today in the Galleria Borghese in Rome. Medium Red chalk on paper, with border framing in pen and brown ink.
