Information
This fine folio engraving is believed to be from the work entitled Raccolta de Tempi Antichi by Francesco Piranesi, Giovanni Piranesi s eldest son. This edition was published in 1780.
Francesco Piranesi published this work two short years after his father s death. Giovanni likely helped with the preparation of the work before his passing.
This work was bound with volumes of G. Piranesi s Le Antichita Romane and purchased from Swann Galleries. Due to limited sources on Francesco s work I am unable to determine the work with certainty, but this plate is listed elsewhere as from Raccolta de Tempi Antichi. Francesco Piranesi s name is engraved below the image at the lower right.
